Frequently Asked Questions

What are the dimensions of the boards?

XS= 39 x 18.5 inches
S = 45 x 20.5 inches
M = 46.5 x 22 inches
L = 48 x 23.5 inches
XL= 49.5 x 24.5 inches

*board dimensions vary slightly due to final sanding and shaping; all of our boards are made by hand.

How long does a board last?

With simple board maintenance, they will last for many years. Our plastic bottom is pretty indestructible. We use soft foam (for a variety of reasons) but it is more susceptible to cosmetic damages over time, especially if you're taking it on dynamic adventures, hiking with it etc. (as we often do) - this does not effect the board's performance, just appearances. In man-made water parks, excessive chlorine exposure will wear down the boards faster as chlorine eats away at all types of foam & adhesives.

What gear is needed?

Depends on water temperatures and time of year. Basic gear needed: body board style fins, brim-less helmet, PFD (ideally low-profile but still CGA). We also recommend river booties to wear inside fins as it helps them stay on better and is safer for walking across rocks etc.

What gear should I have for cold water?

A good quality wetsuit, best overall wetsuit would be 3/4 mil, but if you’re regularly in very cold waters get an even warmer suit. Neoprene socks, gloves and a cap (or hood) will protect your head from brain freeze. Tom has a masterclass on cold water gear with tips & tricks for staying warm, see “learn” for more information.

Do you still build custom boards?

Yes, when we can. If you want different specs or sizing email us at: info@earthveins.com to discuss further. *Additional fees are associated with custom builds.

Do you ship outside North America?

We technically can ship anywhere you want us to, if you’re willing to pay for the pricey shipping. Because a river board is a fairly large item, shipping fees are steep for outside North America (usually around $300 or more CAD), so as a general rule we don’t offer shipping outside of Canada & the US. If you would like us to ship you a board elsewhere, email us for a quote: info@earthveins.com

*taxes and duties may be applied to any orders outside of Canada

What is a board whip handle?

A board whip handle is a small rubber handle attached to a small rope in-laid into the board, on the dominant hand side. This allows for rider to preform a basic trick, we call a board whip, where you hold on to the handle and quickly spin your board while surfing on a wave. See video example below:
